The Paul J. Trageser Council 10910 Knights of Columbus in Chapel Hill, NC is one of 17,000 Knights of Columbus Councils that make up the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Founded in 1882 to assist working-class and immigrant Catholics in the United States, today the approximately two million members of the Knights put their faith into action through a broad range of charitable causes locally, nationally, and internationally with financial contributions and hands-on service.

Since 1882, membership in the Knights of Columbus has been open to men 18 years of age or older who are “practical” (that is, practicing) Catholics in union with the Holy See. Since that time, the Knights of Columbus have understood “practical catholic” to mean a Catholic who accepts the teaching authority of the Catholic Church on matters of faith and morals, aspires to live in accord with the precepts of the Catholic Church and is in good standing in the Catholic Church.

Members come from St. Thomas More Catholic Church and the UNC Newman Center. Because of this, our council allows for student dues of $10.00 per year for each member who is 26 years of age or under. All member dues are $35.00 per year until they are considered Honorary or Honorary Life Members. Deacons, Seminarians, and Priests pay no dues per our council’s by-laws. Supreme also has special exemptions for Disabled Members, Military on Active Duty Orders, and Seminarians. The form 1831 is used to process Disability and Hardship requests.
